The thrive diet was created by professional ironman, Brendan Brazier, and is based on the following a vegan diet to achieve optimum performance and health.
He designed his vegan programme for everyone, no matter if you are an athlete or not.
This can be restrictive plant based diet to improve performance and ensure a balanced diet?
The thrive diet can no dairy, gluten, wheat, soy, corn, refined sugar or products of animal origin. Specific energy gels and sports drinks are allowed, however. Foods that are highly recommended are legumes, vegetables, seeds, some grains, fruits, oils and nuts. Lower body fat and muscle toneDecrease signs of agingIncrease energy and mental clarityIncrease sleepImprove moodStrengthen systemLower the main fight immune cholesterolDecrease junk food of the cravingsThe increase when going vegan and soy-free is figuring out how to provide high quality protein in your diet. Brendan recommends specific legumes powders added to smoothies and homemade energy bars to sneak in an extra full proteins. It can be done, but it is difficult to consume more than 80 grams legumes/nut/wheat protein in a day.The only other concern is sufficient vitamin and mineral intake. If after this you should diet, supplementation of B12, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, and possibly iron.
This diet will probably reduce your cholesterol, since it's practically a cholesterol-free diet, and will likely lower your body fat percentage as you will need to eat fewer calories. I doubt the diet can improve your immune system or habits much sleep, but all other claims seem reasonable.
Since this diet is fairly restrictive, it would be difficult for the average athlete to follow. It takes more time, energy and money to prepare for a diet like this. It can be done, but you need to focus on getting enough calories, proteins and fuel for your lifestyle.
