With sufficient iodine in a healthy diet

While iodized salt is how many receive your daily dose, people with special diets may have to concentrate on other foods appropriate for iodine in their diets.

Iodine is used by the thyroid gland to produce two hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine. Since the human body cannot synthesize, getting enough iodine in the diet is essential.

These hormones regulate the metabolism of every cell in the human body so if the thyroid is malfunctioning brain fog, fatigue, weight gain, weakness and/or depression can be a sign. In addition, birth defects may result from iodine-deficient mothers being serious and iodine deficiency results in a goiter (enlarged thyroid).

While goitre is uncommon in developed nations, slight iodine deficiencies could be diagnosed, especially for those on special diets.

While some countries advocate the use of iodized salt, fertilizers and feedingstuffs, other countries do not so slight disabilities could be prevalent depending on where a person lives.

In addition, vegetarians and those who eat mostly organic products may need to be extra aware of how much they are consuming to get the recommended daily 150mcg iodine iodine (woman pregnant or lactating women should be between 220-290mcg daily). Here are some foods that are rich in iodine. Kelp: 1/4 cup generates 415mcgyogurt: 87mcg * 1 cup producesmilk: 59mcg * 1 cup produceseggs: 24mcg * 1 egg producesstrawberries: 1 cup generates 13mcgShell fish and fish: can vary between about 70mcg and 1000mcg (the upper limit for adults is around 900mcg daily)Mozzerela cheese: 1 ounce produces 10mcg ** this depends on the animal by consuming foods rich in iodine.
Fruits and vegetables grown in iodine-rich soil also provide iodine, but this can vary greatly between regions.

Those who consume a large amount of processed foods will probably not have to worry about getting enough iodine. However, for those of us trying to eat healthy it may be worth spending some time evaluating our daily diet to make sure that you are consuming enough. This is particularly important if any one of the signs of disability are present.
